I thought I'd post an AAR of a game played on Sat. Dec. 13.
At our monthly meeting to play ASL in the Fort Worth - Dallas region Doug Erwin and I decided to play Dead of Winter T6. Doug wanted the bad guys, those hated Nazis. I have the freedom fighters of mother Russia.
Doug set up an in your face defense with his 9-2, 4-6-7,mmg in S2 and a 2-4-7, Demo in a trench in S1. The other squad with a lmg was in a trench in T4. A lonely half squad set up in Y9 and the Mk4 was in CC5. All concealed of course.
Turn 1 :
I decide to enter with an Armor Assault against T4 and eventually enter the hex in bypass causing the 8-1 and 4-6-7 are pinned when they fail the PAATC. The mighty T-34's enter along R3and R4. The Nazi defensive fire breaks a 6-2-8 and achieves a k/2 break on another. The 9-2 stack places a fire lane down the S row. I run 2 squads through the fire lane
adjacent to T4on opposite sides. In advancing fire the pinned troops broke and became prisoners. The squad in S2 breaks from mg fire from a mighty T34 and routs to T0 with the leader. This opens up the floodgates for a rush to the exit area.
Doug sends the 2-4-7 with its Demo charge in an attempt to
kill or immobilize the mighty T34 in S3 it breaks and will rout to T0.
Turn 2: The Rally phase sees all broken units rally except the 2-4-7. The mighty T34s platoon move to Z5-Y5 area and 12 points of Infantry/prisoners rush to the X and Y rows. The Mk4 keeps concealment but I attempt to hit any way and you guessed it I malf'ed a gun. During the German turn he moves his infantry to U1 from T0 and the 2-4-7 in Y9 ends the turn in DD7. He does not fire his Mk4.
Turn 3: I do not know where the little 37L pop gun is but the way is open to run off the board. During the rally phase I attempt to repair the gun ( most of our group plays that all weapons must attempt repairs) My tank is Recalled (of Course). Now I must rush pass the Mk4, I have side armor of 6 so why worry. The mighty T34s start up and when they bypass AA4 the Mk4 fires and Malfs the GUN! Yeah for the good guys!. I now head for a gap in his trench line and exit my mighty T34s (The Infantry will be able to exit 4AA1 with no problem). A mighty T34 enters hex BB1 and his little tiny 37L pop gun announces a shot. The gun was in FF6. The pop gun fires and needs a 7 to hit, the roll is SNAKES! Holycow! Wait THE CREW SURVIVES! I still have enough cvp's to win. All I have to do is exit the last mighty T34 and game over! He cannot roll snakes twice( cross my fingers). The tiny little 37L rolls and barely hits. No problem the armor of my mighty T34 is 6 from the side Vs his kill #of 9 and I breath a sigh of relief. Die roll THREE and the tank is immobilized. AAARG!. The Landser win.
Gotta love this game.
